The experimental activities of the Group are focused on various aspects of the physical oceanography of the Mediterranean Sea and its sub-basins, with a particular attention to the seas around Sardinia and Sicily.
Ocean data from cruises are used to study the characteristics of the general circulation, from seasonal to climatic time scale. Data are also used to validate numerical models. So an experimental activity is also carried out at basin, regional, and coastal scale with the use of vessels of different size: from research vessels to small boats.
Instruments used also vary depending from the needs and the objectives: ADCPs, drifters, multiparametric probes, tide gauges.
Activities are often realised in collaboration with other CNR institutes and/or Italian/international agencies/universities.
Here a list of the oceanographic cruises, organised by IAMC CNR in Oristano, follows (click on the cruise name to open the related picture). The R/V Urania has been mainly used during all cruises. Cruise reports since 2006 are also available here while some CTD data at the MOON-VOS database regularly updated.
